Learning to Embroider

My friend, Cath, is teaching me to embroider. Over the last week, she has shown me how to needle lace and a few basic stitches so that I can work on this.

Pattern: Starry Serenade Redwork

I’m really enjoying embroidery. I get so absorbed with creating the tiny stitches that I lose track of the hours that pass by. I have also been sleeping later than normal so that I can work on it. Embroidering relaxes me so much that I seem to feel more rested when I wake up, even though I’m sleeping less!

Here is a close-up of my handiwork. My stitches are uneven and the tension isn’t consistent.

But I don’t really care. I can’t wait to see this hung up on a wall somewhere in the house. I haven’t decided yet but I’m sure that it’ll make me smile whenever I see it.

By the way, the giveaway is still on. Make sure you leave a comment HERE to stand a chance to win an Amigurumi Pear of your choice.

Well, good night all. I’m going back to my embroidery. :)

Baby Ysoline {+ Amigurumi Pears}

Vivian of Ecoyarns lent me her gorgeous daughter, Ysoline, for a photo shoot with my Amigurumi Pears. I got all set up in Viv’s backyard and started taking a few photos. BUT I’m not a mother so I didn’t really know how to communicate with kids that young.

Viv captured me trying to coax her to cuddle the pears and maybeeee smile for the camera.

But all she did was stare back at me with the pears around her. I didn’t get any decent shot of her on my camera. Just look at Ysoline looking at me!

Her mummy, on the hand, was very clever and came prepared. She not only have her camera with her, she had a pocket full of lollies! Vivian offered her a marshmallow and Ysoline instantly came alive. She posed happily with Mami pear while having a mouthful of marshmallow. She is so precious!

Ysoline signals the end of the photo shoot by kicking the Amigurumi Pears away and running off in the opposite direction! Hehehe… Too cute!

To celebrate the launch of my Amigurumi Pears, I’m giving away a pear of your choice. Head over to my shop and pick the pear you would like. Leave a comment here with the name of the pear. Entries will close 31st August, 11pm Australian EST.

Saturday

Bushwalking
A view like that never gets old. Location: Warrah Trig to Patonga Beach, Brisbane Water National Park
Warrag Trig Lookout
Not bad for photos taken from a mobile phone and joined in Photoshop. I’m rather proud of it.

Knitting
I haven’t been knitting much but I’m meeting up with the girls from the Central Coast Knit & Crochet Ravelry group tomorrow and I thought I should warm up. :P I’ve finally reached the mid-point of the Baktus scarf (pattern).

Anyone recognise the yarn from a previous project?

Baking
Our attempt to bake this condensed milk pound cake (recipe). Hmm… not as light and airy as the recipe’s pictures. I’m lousy at baking anything that requires creaming butter and sugar together.
Condensed Milk Pound Cake
But you know what? It tasted alright despite not tasting nearly sweet enough. I thought it was going to be sickly with the condensed milk so I cut the sugar back a little. Oh well. Most importantly, we both had fun making it together. :D

Qantas
I watched the making of the new Qantas ad tonight and I LOVED it! I’m so thrilled to see an Australian indigineous boy leading the song. It’s a small but significant step in recognising the owners of this land.

If you don’t see the video above, CLICK HERE to watch the Qantas ad directly in YouTube.
