2-in-1 Christmas & Kids Bunting

Inspired by the Scalloped Fabric Garland [tutorial], I decided to sew my own version. I wanted mine to be reversible with a Christmas theme on one side, and a kid’s party theme on the other.

I made this especially for my mother-in-law to use all year around. She LOVES Christmas and her only grandson. She has a spare room decorated just for him whenever he sleeps over. I thought she could hang it above the little boy’s bed when Christmas is over.

It was really fun and quick to make. The tutorial and template from Jessie is clear and easy to follow. The only mistake was I used a thinner bias tape and even though it looks good from a distance, I had to re-sew over the garland with wide zig zags as some of the fabric came loose from the tape.
Scrap Project

I loved making the bunting so much that I whipped up another one the next day! I took ideas from the scalloped garland and Purl Bee’s Party Garland [tutorial] to create a shimmery Christmas Bunting.

This pretty bunting is available for sale in my Etsy store now. 🙂

By the way, have you seen the Sew, Mama, Sew Scrap Buster Contest? If you haven’t, I highly recommend you pop over and check out the many free tutorials dedicated to use up your fabric scraps. I guarantee you’ll find an instant gratification project you can sew up right now.

Enjoy the rest of your day and I’ll see you again on Friday!

Bushwalking
A view like that never gets old. Location: Warrah Trig to Patonga Beach, Brisbane Water National Park
Warrag Trig Lookout
Not bad for photos taken from a mobile phone and joined in Photoshop. I’m rather proud of it.

Knitting
I haven’t been knitting much but I’m meeting up with the girls from the Central Coast Knit & Crochet Ravelry group tomorrow and I thought I should warm up. 😛 I’ve finally reached the mid-point of the Baktus scarf (pattern).

Anyone recognise the yarn from a previous project?

Baking
Our attempt to bake this condensed milk pound cake (recipe). Hmm… not as light and airy as the recipe’s pictures. I’m lousy at baking anything that requires creaming butter and sugar together.

But you know what? It tasted alright despite not tasting nearly sweet enough. I thought it was going to be sickly with the condensed milk so I cut the sugar back a little. Oh well. Most importantly, we both had fun making it together. 😀

Qantas
I watched the making of the new Qantas ad tonight and I LOVED it! I’m so thrilled to see an Australian indigineous boy leading the song. It’s a small but significant step in recognising the owners of this land.

Taking a Break

I’m taking a break from blogging for a while. I have been busy with home renovations and not really doing much crafting. I’ll be back soon when the dust settles and the crafting bug bites me again. Thanks for supporting me and I’ll see you soon!

Quick Post

Morning everyone! I don’t have time for my normal post today as I’ve started home renos again. Yesterday I painted the bathroom walls and today I’m tackling the living room. I’ve taken before and after photos but I really just want to get things started. So I’ll be back soon when the dust has settled, literally!

By the way, THANK YOU for all your comments, especially about my crochet cap! I’ve been a bit slack and not replied to your comments personally but I will get around to it.  I really appreciate every single one of them.

Have a good week and we’ll catch up again soon ok. Take care!

Malay for Aussies: Letter F

I struggled to think of an everyday object that starts with “F” so I had to settle on a commonly used word instead.
